The word ‘chakra’ means disc or wheel in Sanskrit, and refers to the energy centers in your body. These wheels or discs of spinning energy each correspond to certain nerve bundles and major organs. The chakra system originated in India in the oldest text called the Vedas - ancient sacred texts of spiritual knowledge dating from 1500 to 1000 BC.

Description

We have seven chakras in our body. The electric body layer within us is joined with our physical body at these seven points, and this brings the power, the life energy to our physical body. It is important to understand a little about these seven chakras because as soon as you enter the meditative state you have to pass, whether knowingly or unknowingly, through these seven chakras. These mysterious and energetic points will not be found in the physical form, yet these doors are key to understanding yourself, your personality, and how you are dealing with things in your life.

Muladhara (Root Chakra) – The first chakra is located at the lower end of the spine, at the back of the body, at its very base. It provides the foundation for how we build our lives; representing safety, security, stability. When there is imbalance in this chakra, you will experience: fear, anxiety, low self-esteem, exhaustion, and lower back pain.

Svadhisthana (Sacral Chakra) – The second chakra is located below the navel. It represents creative and sexual energy. Its function is to optimize our personal power, so that we can navigate our lives with strength and determination. When there is imbalance in this chakra, you will experience: despair, an inability to find new ideas, kidneys and urinary problems, infertility, impotence.

Manipura (Solar Plexus) – The third chakra is located below the chest. It represents self-esteem, pleasure, willpower and personal responsibility. When there is imbalance in this chakra, you will experience: low self-esteem, no new ideas, no creativity, infertility, impotence.

Anahata (Heart Chakra) – The fourth chakra is located at the center of the chest, at the heart center. It represents love and self-loving. It governs all relations. When there is imbalance in this chakra, you will experience: depression, difficulty in relationships, lack of discipline.

Vishuddha (Throat Chakra) – The fifth chakra is located in the center of the neck. It represents the ability to speak and communicate clearly and effectively. When there is imbalance in this chakra, you will experience: shyness, arrogance, attracting the wrong people, hearing and Thyroid problems.

Ajna (Third Eye Chakra) – The sixth chakra is located in the center of your forehead between your two eyebrows. It’s considered to be the seat of the mind, of both conscious and unconscious awareness. It represents intuition and insight. When there is imbalance in this chakra, you will experience: lack of direction, no time to react, nightmares, vision problems.

Sahasrara (Crown Chakra) – The seventh plane is located at the top of your head. It represents states of the higher consciousness and divine connection. When there is imbalance in this chakra, you will experience: cynicism, loneliness, confusion.

METHOD

This meditation will bring awareness to your chakras and activate, unblock and clear any resistance that you might be holding in that area. It will dive you into the deepest depths of your body. You can lay down or stay in a seated position; whichever one you choose must enable you to maintain your spine in a straight position. Close your eyes, breathe in through your nose and exhale through your mouth, repeating this three times. Let’s begin!

First Stage: Root Chakra

Move gently to locate this area in the base of your spine. Start breathing in as low as you can, with the intention of reaching this area. Observe your breath going directly to this area. See how it expands. You can start with seven deep breaths, and steadily increase this to 21 breaths. As you start connecting with your sex centers, allow an expansion and contraction to naturally happen. Vibrate in the red color.

Second Stage: Sacral Chakra

Rise above the area that you’ve concentrated on during the first stage. Concentrate your navel. Move gently and carefully locate this area. Breathe in, directing this process of breathing to an area of the width of four fingers, below your navel. Start with seven deep breaths and steadily increase this number to 21. Feel the expansion through your belly and lower back. Vibrate in the color orange. Focus, allow, enjoy.

Third Stage: Solar Plexus

Raise your awareness above your navel and focus on the area immediately below your breastbone. Breathe deeply and direct the breath to this point. Allow the energy to expand through this area, but maintain that focus of energy in the middle of the solar plexus. Bring the vibration of yellow.

Fourth Stage: Heart Center

Rise your breath toward the center of the chest. Concentrate on the quality of your breathing. Allow the expansion and contraction to be present. Stay positive and allow the vibration of the green to shower this area of your body.

Fifth Stage: Throat

Bring your awareness to your throat. Observe closely as your breath expands and contracts this area. Allow the vibration of the blue, breathing in lighter clean blue and exhaling deep polluted blue. Remember to start with seven breaths and steadily increase this number to 21 breaths.

Sixth Stage: Third Eyes

Allow the focus of your breathing to move upwards with every breath. Allow the energy to enter your nose and bring it up to the center of your eyebrows. Start to bring in light as well. Feel the concentration of energy at that point. Allow the vibration of the color indigo, ultramarine blue to show up and resonate.

Seventh Stage: Crown

Now concentrate on the top of your head. Allow the energy to follow your focus. With every breath, allow this expansion to happen. Vibrate and invite the purple color to emerge. You can breathe in the lighter version of this color, allowing the deeper color to be emitted with your exhalation.

Eighth Stage

As you finish the journey through all of the chakras, focus on all the energy rising up, passing through those chakras. Feel the energy coming up from the earth, going in through your body and leaving your body, towards the sky through your crown chakra. Do this seven times and close the meditation with three deep breaths.

WHEN, HOW, WHERE

Remember that any time you sit to meditate, you should choose a space where you are sure you won’t have interruptions. There is nothing more annoying than when you are navigating depths of your being, and someone approaches you with their mundane energy, interfering with the deep connection that you were activating. Once you meditate enough, and you have the feeling locked inside you, it will be possible to hold and maintain this state. This is one of the objectives of this chapter. Meanwhile, always choose an appropriate time and space that will allow you the safety, space and opportunity to concentrate. Then you can really dive in.

Drop all of the knowledge, put it to one side, and start connecting to the energy field generated by each chakra. Allow, Allow, Allow – let the experience be there!
