Humming is when you make your body vibrate with your voice. When you start humming (chanting a sound), your whole body will start vibrating, especially your brain cells. Once your mind is chanting and your body starts vibrating, they both fall into a tune. There is a harmony between them — which is ordinarily never there.

Since ancient times, humming has been used as a form of healing in many different religions. Humming and chants have been used by
mystics and spiritual teachers for meditation since they were well aware of the healing powers of this sound. In Hinduism, you have OM, in the Tibetan tradition we find the OMMANI PADME HUM. Muslims use AMEEN, and in the Catholic tradition we had AMEN (but people forgot the healing properties). In Japanese traditions, we find the NAM MYOHO RENGE KYO. If you add the humming to all of these ‘mantras’, they will generate a vibration in your body.

METHOD

When you start humming, you will begin resonating inside, and the body will start to respond as well. Sooner or later, a moment will come when the body and the mind are both conjoined in one direction for the first time. Remember to always become a witness.

First Stage

Close your eyes and take three long, deep inhalations and exhalations to relax the body. Let it know you are entering meditation time.

Second Stage

Take your index fingers on each hand and block off your ear
canals gently.

Third Stage (15 minutes)

Begin humming; close your mouth and start creating a sound that will create vibration throughout your body. You can visualize a hollow tube filled only with the vibrations of the humming. There is no special breathing, and you can alter the pitch or move your body smoothly and slowly if you feel it. If the mind becomes distracted, gently bring your focus back to your humming. You can then release your hands from your ears and continue in the vibration of the humming.

Fourth Stage

Stop humming and enjoy the silence and peace of mind you have created for yourself. The longer you spend humming, the deeper the sense of relaxation, peace, and happiness you will experience after this meditation has been completed. When you are ready, stand and stretch.

This meditation is for everyone and can be practiced at any time. The more you introduce this meditation, the more vibration you are inviting into your body. It’s an easy and fast way to get aligned with the source and raise your vibration. Remember to watch, to become the witness. Ask yourself, “Who is humming?” and observe…

If you have physical pain, you can practice the vibration of humming and direct the vibration to that part of the body that needs extra care. Allow the vibration to penetrate and heal.
